In a heartwarming display of sportsmanship and community spirit at Rowe Park Sports Complex, Lagos, the Lagos State Government sporting event - 'Sporty Lagos With Sanwo-Olu' was a huge success yesterday.
Young sportsmen, women and enthusiastic lovers of sports and coaches, including club owners and managers attended the maiden edition event themed: "Christmas IBILE Hangout Fiesta". The event featured a variety of sports, from darts, boxing, ayo olopon, ludo weight lifting, table tennis, long tennis, chess, football, draft, konfu basketball, handball and others.
Mr. Adebanji Atewogboye SKIBANJ, a Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Grassroots Sports Development, Lagos, who organized the epoch event stressed the need for the event.
According to him, the year 2023 is being economical challenge for youths and it is imperative to end the year with memorable moments and cheer up the youths through sports.
Mr. Atewogboye SKIBANJ added: "The program also aimed at creating a platform for youths and sport professionals, such as sportsmen and women, coaches, club managers and owners including sports enthusiastic across five divisions in Lagos -IBILE - to converge in one event for all sports and games. So that, talents can display their skills and discovered for #AGreaterLagosRising".
SKIBANJ further said that the state will continue to encourage youth participation and sports development to build a sane society.
During the event, young sports professionals were also seen in excited to participate in their choice of sports
One of the participants from Ikorodu, Gabriel Omotolani said: "I'm so happy to attend A Sporty Lagos With Sanwo-Olu event, because youths have never had fun like this through sporting programs in the state.
Laja Sunmonu from Badagry, a table tennis player, expressed gratitude to Gov. Sanwo-Olu and his Senior Aide, Mr. Atewogboye. "The event is a soothing experience, fun and memorable. I thanked the governor of Lagos and grassroots sports SSA for the event and we hope it continues"
Dignitaries including Director General, Lagos State Sports Commission, Hon. Oluwatoyin Bolowotan Gafar; Director of School Sports LSSC, Dr. Oluyomi Olusanmi; Director Technical LSSC, Mr. Okunu; Facility Manager, Mr Deji Aladegbemi; SSAs to Lagos state Governor on Sport - Mr. Damilare Orimoloye, SSA LSDPC - Hon. Derin Philips, SSA on Housing, ESV. Ayodeji Amodu attended the event.
Former Assembly Aspirant From Ifako-Ijaiye; Hon Adeyemo Adewale; Supervisor for Special Duties Ayobo-Ipaja LCDA Hon Dipo Daramola; Supervisor for Agric,Youths & Sports Igando-Ikotun LCDA
Public officers from Lagos State Sports Commission, Board Members, Lagos State Sports Association Chairmen and management staffs also marked their presence at the event.
