REP. WALE RAJI'S ELDERS WELFARE SCHEME "OWO ARUGBO": 3 YEARS OF UNBROKEN PROMISE

On Saturday 28th November, 2020, the member representing Epe Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Rep. Wale Raji rolled out two distinct projects meant to directly impact the lives of his constituents.

The first one is the Grassroots Traders Support which was designed to give a cash grant of 25000 each to 1,100 traders selected from different parts of Epe Federal Constituency which amounted to a total of 27,500,000.

The second one was the launch of the Elders Welfare Scheme tagged "Owo Arugbo" which was designed to give the elderly, aged 70 years and above 10,000 monthly to meet their basic needs. The beauty of this initiative is not just in the disbursement of the funds but in the physical delivery of the stipends to the beneficiaries individually by officals from the office of Wale Raji monthly to ensure the last person is reached and their welfare is also checked with a direct feedback reported to the legislator who occasionally speaks or physically meet the beneficiaries.

This initiative which has become so dear to the legislator has so far gotten wonderful commendation from the beneficiaries, their relatives, political leaders, community leaders and members of the public in Epe Federal Constituency and beyond.

One thing that has consistently amazed all and sundry is the consistent and sustainable implementation of the project for 3 years against all odds. During the cash crunch occasioned by the CBN's naira redesign policy, the team rose above the challenge to ensure cash was provided. During the electioneering period and after which a lot of observers expected would signal the end of the project, the project persisted and has since grown stronger with a current beneficiary figure of 145 from the initial 105 it started with in 2020.

Sustaining this great initiative at a time where there is so much political distrust is laudable worthy of emulation to really trickle down welfare initiatives to the grassroot.

Rep. Wale Raji has continued to distinguished himself in the service of his constituents both on the floor of the house and back home.
